Plug-in Behavior and Limitations

eXPerience allows you to place an unlimited number of plug-ins on the desktop.  Note that plug-ins are created by 3rd parties.

Open

Battery Bar, Program Bar, Journal Bar, and Ipaq Panel are 3rd party plug-ins and are not included with eXPerience.  These plug-ins must be purchased separately.

To open a plug-in, tap and hold on the desktop.  Select Plug-ins > Open, then select one from the list.  eXPerience automatically lists all plug-ins installed on your device.

Edit

To edit open plug-ins, tap and hold on the desktop.  Select Plug-ins > Edit, then choose one from the list.  The Plug-in Editor displays.

Border style set to 'Normal'.

Select "Clear" to remove the name.  "Reset" brings back the original name.  The name can also be edited for customization.

When 'Auto-Size' is checked, eXPerience will adjust the size of the plug-in based on the plug-ins preferred size.  When it is unchecked you can specify any size.

When Text color or Back color are selected you can customize the color.  When they are deselected the default colors are used.

Due to technical limitations the back color can not be transparent.  We continue to research to find a solution to this limitation.

Border style set to 'Thin'.

There is also a "None" border style.

'Save & <' saves this plug-in and navigates to the previous plug-in.

'Save & >' saves this plug-in and navigates to the next plug-in.

'Save & Close' saves this plug-in and closes the editor.

'Cancel' closes without saving the plug-in.

Close

To close plug-ins, tap and hold on the desktop.  Select Plug-ins > Close, then choose one from the list or choose "All".  Finally, if the plug-in has a normal border style, click the red 'X' to close it.

Reload

Many plug-ins allow you to change their settings via Today settings.  You must reload the plug-in in eXPerience for the changes to take effect.

Plug-in Behavior and Limitations

Plug-ins were designed for the Today screen.  Getting them to work in eXPerience as applications took some technical feat.  To ensure that plug-ins run correctly in eXPerience, you should turn them off on the original Today screen.  For example, if you have Battery Bar on the Today screen and in eXPerience, then change the icon size in Battery Bar, it won't change in eXPerience until you restart eXPerience.  But if you only have Battery Bar open in eXPerience, it will change as expected.

Microsoft's default plug-ins are written in a way that makes it impossible to show them in eXPerience.  This currently includes Date, Tasks, Owner Info, Calendar, and Inbox.  There are many 3rd party plug-ins that duplicate the same functionality found in these stock plug-ins.  Many can be found for free on the internet.
