Yes.  Uninstall the demo version first.  After the uninstall you may be informed that the eXPerience directory couldn't be deleted. These directories hold your user settings.  When you install the new version it will use these settings.  If you want a fresh start, then delete these directories before installing the new version.

Do I need to uninstall the demo version before installing the full version?

Can I password protect my device with eXPerience?

Yes.  Your device should have a password protection feature built in.  eXPerience interfaces with this feature.  In eXPerience click on   Start > Control Panel > Personal > Password.  Set the options to your preference.  For example if you want your device to password protect as soon as the device is turned off, set the "Prompt if device unused for" to 0 minutes.

Does digitalEXPEDITION offer free upgrades?

We offer free upgrades for minor releases.  For example, 1.01 users can upgrade to 1.02 for free.  When a new major version is released, we will typically charge for the update.  Sometimes there can be exceptions to this rule.  These exceptions are always in favor of the customer.

Right now all 1.xx users can upgrade to 2.xx versions for free.  Also, 1.xx users will be able to get free upgrades to all future 2.xx releases.

For most upgrades you can download it from the e-commerce provider you purchased from (Handango, PocketGear).  Log into your account and go to your download area to download the latest version of eXPerience.  If you purchased from another vendor contact us and we will send you information on how to get the latest version.

I have .NET Compact Framework installed in my device's ROM but the installer is trying to install it again.  How can I prevent this?

The installer should automatically detect CF and not reinstall it.  However, there is a way to bypass the installer.  When you installed eXPerience to your desktop several .cab files were placed in the install directory.  .cab files are installation files for your device.  Find the .cab file that matches your device and copy it to your device.  For example, eXPerience_PPC2003.STRONGARM.cab is for most Windows Mobile 2003 devices.  Once this file is on your device, click on it from your device and it will install.

How can I display the Windows logo on the start button?

Tap and hold on the desktop and select "Properties" from the menu options.  The Properties screen displays.  Select "Start Button" from the drop down control.  Click the "Show Start Button Icon" option.  There is an option to change the icon also.

Is eXPerience compatible with Animated Today?

Yes!  The themes in Animated Today have two parts:

  1. The theme part (which is usally a solid color theme)
  2. The animation part (which is a plug-in)

Follow these steps:

Set up your animated theme like you normally do.  We selected "Animated Balloons".

It looks like this on the Today Screen.

Go to eXPerience and open the Properties screen.  Select the Desktop tab and then select "Today Theme".  Notice the preview panel shows the theme part of Animated Today.  In our case, this is the solid blue theme.

Exit out of the Properties screen.

Open "Animated Today" plug-in from the Plug-ins menu.

The animated theme displays in eXPerience.

This is how it looks with the plug-in dialog style set to "Thin".  There is also a "No Border" option..

How do I know when a new version is released?

Starting with version 2.07 there is a menu option that can check for updates.  You need to connect your device to the internet (this can be done by connecting to ActiveSync) for the feature to work.  If it detects a new update then proceed to download the latest version from the e-commerce provider you originally purchased from.  In some cases you may need to contact us to get the latest version.

Does eXPerience run on an iPaq 4700/4705?

Yes.  We now have an iPaq 4700 in our labs.  After reviewing the device we found out that most of the bugs are related to the version of .NET installed on the device.  Microsoft released a new runtime back in January 2005 that fixes many issues with this device.  The new release can be found here:

.NET Compact Framework 1.0 SP3 Redistributable

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=a5a02311-194b-4c00-b445-f 92bec03032f&displaylang=en

Notice at the bottom of the page it specifically mentions a bug on 4700/4705 devices.
